Val opening the evening in Annie’s absence
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the 34th AGM & Prize giving evening.
I’m sorry to say that unfortunately our lovely Chairlady Annie cannot be with us this evening. Very sadly Annie’s husband Tom, passed away a few days ago. I’m sure you will all join me in taking a few moments to think of Annie and close friends and family at this very sad time. Let us also reflect on those who are unable to join us this evening and those who are less fortunate than ourselves across the World.
Thank you. You will find a copy of the Agenda, Minutes of last year’s AGM and Treasurers report for your information on your table which we will refer to later in the evening. We hope you enjoy your meal.
CHAIRMANS REPORT – on Annie’s behalf
It’s lovely to see so many of you here tonight and we thank you for your continued support. We are very fortunate indeed to be able to continue to enjoy such a great sport amongst friends and ladies at various clubs across the County and we hope that you have enjoyed your games during the Tournaments.
There were 216 ladies who entered the Winter League Vets Tournament and 126 ladies have entered the Super Vets which is due to commence very soon. Both Tournaments continue to be well supported. Thank you, ladies.
Organising the leagues, collating the results and answering queries can take many hours of work and this is all done on a voluntary basis. This year for the Winter Vets we will be introducing a new electronic entry form which will hopefully help to reduce the time it takes to organise the Divisions. Please don’t worry, the Committee will help with any problems regarding the completion of the form. More details will follow in due course.
Annie would like to thank all of the committee who continue to do a great job, to (myself) Val Noble and Alison Trafford for the many hours of hard work organising and running the leagues. Liz Fazackerley who continues to do a great job as our secretary, Barbara Williams for running our website which has
recently been updated and Lynn Norwood our treasurer for keeping our accounts in order and to all of the Committee for helping to organise this evening.
After many years of being part of the Committee, both Lynn and myself (Val) have decided that the time has come to step down. I’m sure Lynn will agree with me that it’s been very rewarding over the years to see so many ladies participating in the Tournaments, enjoying playing their tennis whilst raising funds for various Charities. * Liz thanked Lynn & Val etc We would also like to thank Julie Turner who has kindly volunteered to take over as Treasurer and thanks also to Beulah Sell who has kindly volunteered to take over from myself as Tournament Director. Lynn & I will continue to support Julie and Beulah during the following months to ensure a smooth transition.
Last year the Committee organised a one-day charity tournament at the Leicestershire Tennis Club. This was a huge success and enjoyed by all followed by a delicious lunch. The Tournament raised an overall profit of £2079 and donations of £1,000 and £1,079 were given to The Laura Centre and LOROS respectively. We hope to run a similar Tournament in 2025.
This year the LVLTA will be making a donation of £1,000 to LOROS which I’m sure you will all agree is a very worthwhile hospice charity. We are very fortunate to have Rob Parkinson, Chief Executive Officer of LOROS here with us this evening as our guest speaker, who will be talking to us in a few moments.
During the last year, two of our members, Claire Bridges from Ashby Castle Tennis Club and Lucy Fairbrother from the Leicestershire Tennis Club sadly passed away. Claire and Lucy had participated in our Tournament’s for many years. I’m sure many of you would have played some great games against them over the years and I know they are and will continue to be missed by many.
We would also like to remember John Stew who sadly passed away last year. John was the Catering Manager here at the LCC and looked after us very well at this annual event for several years.
Before I hand over to Lynn for the Treasurers report I’d like to thank Steve for agreeing to take photographs for us again. Ladies, we will announce the winners and runners up together and bring the prizes to your tables where Steve will take your photograph. Please ask if you would like any additional photographs taken.
• I will now ask Lynn to give us the treasurers report.
Thank you, Lynn
• Can I have a proposer to adopt the report……. And a seconder
• And now the official election of Officers.
• As previously mentioned, Julie Turner has volunteered to join the Committee and take over as Treasurer. Could I please have a proposer? And seconder?
• Beulah Sell was unable to attend this evening but has also kindly volunteered to join the Committee and take over as Tournament Director. Could I have a proposer please? And a seconder?
Thank you to both of you and welcome to the Committee. If anybody is interested in joining the Committee, please let us know. It’s always good to have new faces.
Is there any other business?
I’d like to now close the meeting at
Thank you ladies, I’m delighted to introduce our guest speaker, Rob Parkinson.
Thank you Rob I’m confident all of us here tonight agree how valuable LOROS is in Leicestershire and Rutland. We appreciate you taking the time to join us this evening. It really was very interesting and extremely informative.
Thank you all for joining us this evening. We hope you’ve had an enjoyable evening and continue to enjoy your tennis. We wish you a safe journey home.
