“We are all fortunate to be able to participate in a sport that we all enjoy and we trust that you have all had good matches.
We thank you all for your continued support and we welcome any new members. Last year we had 208 ladies entered for the vets and 126 ladies entered for the super-vets so it’s good that both tournaments are still well supported.
The leagues do take many hours to organise and it is all done on a voluntary basis. We now have the electronic entry forms, which have helped enormously, and hope that you’ve all found them easy to use.
Could we remind players to read the rules and we do urge you to arrange your matches in good time to avoid late submissions. A few ladies have made comments about struggling with communication to get matches arranged and we are aware that not everyone regularly checks their emails, so it may be worth a Whatsapp message or even a phone call.
Could you also make sure that any emails related to the tournament are sent to the correct email address so that they can be dealt with promptly.
It’s unfortunate that there were 25 couples that had to withdraw this year mainly due to injuries, which has led to some players not getting many matches in their league, which is unfortunately unavoidable.
I take this opportunity to thank Beulah Sell and Alison Trafford, our vets and super-vets tournament directors, for all their hard work and also to Val Noble who has been in the background for her advice and support to Beulah since her retirement as vets tournament director last year.
There are no changes to the committee this year and I thank them all for doing such a great job. As mentioned, Beulah and Alison as tournament directors, our very efficient Secretary Liz Fazackerley, Barbara Williams for running our website and sending out all the polite reminders to you all, and Julie Turner completing her first year as treasurer, also a thank you to Lynn Norwood for remaining in the background to help guide Julie.
Of course, there is also a lot of organizing to prepare for this evening so on behalf of the LVLTA thank you all on the committee for all your hard work.
Some of you may have noticed our new mantra on our website so that we can remind players what we are about…… “Run By Volunteers For THE LOVE OF TENNIS And Supporting Your Chosen Charities.”
This year we will be donating £300 each to 3 charities, LOROS, RAINBOWS and
Leicester Myeloma Patient Support. Very sadly Mandy Lane a player from David Lloyd passed away earlier this year. We send our condolences to her family and friends.
Anne thanked everyone for attending the dinner and AGM and Jeremy Trafford for taking the photos this evening.
Again, the photo albums were available for anyone who wished to take away any of the photos from the past 35 years.
